Roving chums

We were inside the regular black , cardboard shoebox when Bella brought us from that fairyland. It was a fairyland for me because there were many of our fellow friends and we were treated like king and Queens. The shopkeeper there, acted as if they are our servants. There, I and Jim lead a royal life and we always felt nostalgia for it.

But now, our lives have changed and I truly appreciate that , because ” life is not always bed full of roses” . Now we act as servants to Bella. I and my friend Jim will always be lucky as we were her favourite pair of shoes. Bella is affectionate to us and wears us wherever she goes. Be it malls , be it playground or parties and I always feel lucky to serve her because she chooses us other than all her shoes. We three ( I, Jim and Bella) go walking together, run, travel new places and explore the new world. I would rather say, my present life is more zestfull then my royal one, as I can explore new world although, I have to work a little. I too miss my old friends of the shop, but I hope they would also be living joyfully as I am.

But my best friend Jim always detested this life and wishes to have his old royal life packed inside the four walls of the palace (shop). As it is said “Whatever happens, happens for good “, and l truely believe there’s something good in this. But as a companion , I have to make him understand this.

It was Sunday and we have to go walking with Bella. I was all excited to have another joyous day with Bella. But behind my jolly face stood a sad , distressed faced Jim . Jim wasn’t happy at all !! He just wanted to run away from Bella’s house. Nevertheless, we started walking , enjoying the earthy scent of soil. I kept talking to Jim to make him cheerful but my efforts went all in vain. Incidentally some stones went inside me while walking. Bella seated herself to a bench and started opening her shoes. As soon as she opened Jim ,Jim started running to the shoeshop , which was just at a distance. I too started running after him , because ‘he is nothing without me, nor I am’. “Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain”.

It was all his innocence that he didn’t thought about it. I wasn’t running after him not because I am worthless without him but I was running after him because the shopkeepers are no longer going to accept him.

Jim entered the shops and was overwhelmed to see again his palace with four walls, where he was treated like a prince. He comfortably seated himself on shoe rack. Suddenly the shops owner shouted ‘Who has placed this dirty shoe here ?’ and at once kicked him out of his shop. Jim was shocked and asked the shopkeeper ‘Can’t you remember me, I am Jim , the Prince of your shop ‘. The shopkeeper went inside ignoring him.

Jim, full of remorse, started walking on the busy road. I shouted Be mindful , a car is coming!!’ Soon then Jim realized , he would be crushed by a car and at once jumped on the footpath swiftly.

Jim was looking dejected but after some time, while walking with me he said ‘ I have understood that, life is a journey that is meant to be embraced to the fullest every day, irrespective of the situation.’

Thank you my friend, my companion for being with me in every step………..πŸ‘žπŸ‘ž

Wow! What an awesome story with valuable lessons! I realized we always wanted to go back to the past because we feel like the past is better than our present, but going back to it will never be the same because we have become a different person, and the past will never be the same.

Thank you so much for sharing this story, Dulcy! Keep writing!
